Cockroach Control in Welland

Cockroaches in Welland: what to know

Welland sits along the Welland Recreational Waterway and has many older homes, multi-unit buildings and rentals, including housing near the Niagara College Welland campus.

• Older apartment buildings near the canal can have shared plumbing and gaps that let cockroaches spread.
• Older plumbing and gaps around pipes give cockroaches hiding spots and ways to move around.
• Shared kitchens and multi-unit student housing can let cockroaches spread between units, so landlords and tenants need to coordinate.

Cockroaches live indoors and can be a problem any time of year.

Signs of cockroaches in your home

• Cockroaches seen at night in kitchens or bathrooms, scattering when the light comes on
• Small dark droppings that look like pepper or coffee grounds
• Egg cases behind appliances, under sinks or in cabinets
• A musty odour in heavier infestations

What cockroach control usually involves

A provider identifies the species and finds where cockroaches are hiding, often in warm, damp spots near kitchens and plumbing. Treatment usually uses targeted gel baits and other products in those areas, with follow-up visits. In apartment buildings, treating neighbouring units at the same time works best.

Prevention tips for Welland homes

• Keep counters, floors and appliances free of crumbs and grease
• Fix leaky taps and pipes, and don't leave standing water
• Seal gaps around plumbing and in cabinets
• Take out garbage regularly and use lidded bins

When to call

Call as soon as you see cockroaches. They multiply quickly and are much easier to clear early.
